From the Artistic Director
Maryland Ensemble Theatre is dedicated to the production of exciting,
thought-provoking theatrical art on the Frederick County stage, exploring all aspects of
the theatrical repertoire, including histories, classics, comedies, dramas, and new plays.
The nationally known comedy troupe The Comedy Pigs will delve into music, sketch
comedy and improvisation in the form of late night cabarets and special events. The
theatre will also include outreach programs that deliver productions to school children;
The Ensemble School, a training program for actors whose past students can boast of
over $95,000 in performance scholarships; and a gallery to exhibit artists' works.
MET promises to be a true collection of creative artistic effort.
From side splitting comedy to historic plays, to classics, to thought-provoking
modern dramas; MET promises to be a haven for the art and education of theatre where
artists of all backgrounds can come together to produce exciting professional theatre.

How I got into all of this.
One night during a break of an acting class in late 1995, Tad told me about an idea to
have their own space to do plays, hold acting classes and do comedy shows. At that
time it was really hard to find a space to do all of those things for the right price and
at the right times. (As a matter of fact, the place we were holding the acting class
at was a rented building at a local park.) He asked me if I would be interested in
bringing my business skills to assist them on this venture. I agreed to help out,
and over four years later we have our own space inside the Cultural Arts Center in
downtown Frederick to do all of those things he talked about and much more!
I think Tad thought he was getting a business guy who was just taking an acting class
or two to help them out, but what he got was some crazy nut, who could help him with the
business end, but was really just another misplaced actor. After a while they
realized that I wouldn't leave them alone, so they let me be their friends to.
It's been an amazing ride so far and I can't wait to see what happens next!
I must say that I will always owe Tad and Gené a lifetime of gratitude for sending me
that flyer in the mail with a Marilyn Monroe stamp. (Read the
stamp story.)
